Dr. Smith, a native of Pittsburgh, joined the practice that he had heard about while growing up in the South Hills.

“During my orthopaedic training at the University of Pittsburgh, I had the opportunity to work with the surgeons at Three Rivers Orthopedics,” said Dr. Smith.  “It confirmed my opinion that this was the best orthopaedic group in Pittsburgh.  When you come to the practice, the surgeons spend time with the patients, listening to them… before surgery and during the recovery process. The surgeons at TRO are accessible throughout your treatment.”

Dr. Smith completed his undergraduate studies at Villanova University and attended Thomas Jefferson University’s Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He returned to his hometown to complete his orthopaedic training through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

During his residency, Dr. Smith developed a passion for his sub-specialty, spinal surgery. Following his residency, Dr. Smith completed a fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.  He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and his work has been extensively published in top medical journals.

He shares his expertise with the community, giving lectures on topics pertaining to cervical and lumbar spinal conditions.  Dr. Smith also serves on the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society Board of Directors and is on the UPMC-St. Margaret’s Hospital Medical Staff Executive Committee.
