Vincent J. Silvaggio, MD
Dr. Silvaggio was born and raised in Pittsburgh and completed his undergraduate degree and medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He also did his residency and fellowship through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Part of Dr. Silvaggio’s experience included a spine fellowship, where he spent six months at UPMC and six months at Three Rivers Orthopedic Associates. In 1994, when one of his mentors joined the practice, Dr. Silvaggio said his decision to become a partner was an easy one.
“It’s the way the group functions,” said Dr. Silvaggio. “Other than the fact that we have a great rapport with each other, we function as a group – not as individuals. It helps us to do what’s best for the patient, so they’re not waiting for weeks to have their problem resolved. We expedite evaluation and treatment that way.”
Dr. Silvaggio is Chairman of Orthopaedics at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and specializes in spinal surgery. He serves on the Spine Sub-Committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Silvaggio remains active in the community by giving orthopaedic lectures at various events. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the UPMC St. Margaret Foundation and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.
